These are some of the best cheap convertibles that money can buy
Feel tempted by any of these?
It's May, the weather is getting warmer, Summer is arriving and lets say you feel like owning a convertible you can enjoy while the weather is hot. I've set a budget of £10,000 on Autotrader.co.uk so I could find some of the best affordable convertibles on the used car market. All of the prices are correct as of the time of writing this article.
If you want to have a lot of fun for your money, the S2000 is a good car for you. With a 2.0 naturally aspirated engine producing 236bhp and revving up to a whopping 9,000rpm, it is a great car to buy, and it's absolutely great on B roads as well. There are a few S2000s within budget, some with sub 100,000 miles even, and I'd recommend buying the best example you can find within your own budget.
Next up is another car that offers a lot of fun driving experience for your money, a car that is loved by many even though some call it a hairdresser's car, yes, you guessed it, it's the Mazda MX-5! You can pick yourself either of the first three generations of the MX-5 (NA, NB or NC) within the set budget, with the cheapest ones being listed at under £1,500, meaning it's possible to get your hands on an MX-5 even if you are in a tight budget.
Another great driver's car for this list is the Porsche Boxster. If you dream of owning a 911 but can't quite afford it, this the car for you, it still keeps a lovely naturally aspirated flat-six engine and lots of fun factor. The cheapest examples can set you back £4,000, even though those examples would probably bring you home lots of repair bills. But you can find some nice examples when having a budget of £10,000 in mind, and even some of the second generation Boxsters, the 987.
The BMW Z4 is another good driver's car, cheap examples start at around £2,000 and you have different engines to choose from, from 4 and 6 cylinder petrols. Alternatively, you could get a BMW 3-series convertible, or even one of the few M3s there are currently for under £10,000. A pre-purchase inspection would be needed if you're looking for a cheap M3.
This car is a bit of a departure from the other cars mentioned so far, but if you are looking for a luxury convertible within budget, the SL is a good car for you. Prices for used SLs start at around £4,000, and there are V8 examples within a £10,000 budget.
If you're looking for a cheap luxury convertible, another car I'd recommend looking at is the BMW 6-series, another good car for this list, and just like the SL you can also find V8 examples within a £10,000 budget. Overall, the 6-series is a good comfortable cruiser to enjoy the top-down summer breeze.
That was it! I know I've missed many good convertibles like the BMW Z3, Audi TT, Mercedes SLK, Saab 9-3, you name it, but these are the best cheap convertibles in my opinion, do you agree with my list? Comment below!
