As motorcyclists, we seem to try justifying some of our more annoying habits, even when we know how irritating they can be. Most of us also drive cars so we should be aware of what we're doing wrong - Here's just some of the top grievances.
Using full beam everywhere
Some riders insist on this - day or night they'll always tell you it's better to annoy a car driver because at least they've seen you.
Unsurprisingly, the car driver won't see it that way. Thankfully, most car drivers will adjust their rearview mirror, wave you past and mutter "w*nker" under their breath. If you're unlucky, you might get an idiot who thinks it's worth brake checking you under a truck. Make the effort to adjust your lights and use them properly.
Revving it up
Whether you have a screaming R6 or a chugging V-Twin, they all sound sh*t revving at a standstill. It's a different matter screaming past at three-figure speeds or on the over run, but there's something about revving your bike whilst stationary that screams "LOOK AT MEEEE!!"
Your average car driver doesn't appreciate the years of practice that go into pulling off a proper wheelie. Added anti brownie points for pulling them into oncoming traffic or overtaking on the back wheel. Every member of the public seems to have a dash cam nowadays and you'll be certain they'll upload your 2nd - 4th gear minger to the local police force website, it gives them something to do...
Riding at oncoming traffic
You know what it's like, the weekend traffic is causing mayhem and you like to make one overtake at a time, gradually making progress.
Sometimes that gap is a little tight and you'll decide to gas it instead of squeezing back in. From the bike's perspective, there's usually loads of room. From the oncoming car, it looks like you're going straight through their windscreen. Anything that causes other traffic to brake generally pisses 'em right off.
Smashing off mirrors
Car drivers do stupid stuff. All. The. Time.
There's a lot to be said for being relaxed, taking a deep breath and letting things go. If the car driver wants to win, they will. Messing with the wrong driver on the wrong day will see you under their wheels, whether you like it or not. There are way too many YouTubers getting heroic with their mirror smashing and door kicking.
This cruiser rider got into an altercation and very nearly paid a huge price for it.
