This '67 custom Camaro was Iron Man's gift to Captain America
It is the season where we exchange cards, gifts, and diseases. But beyond all the teenagers who’ll be receiving a brightly coloured iPhone this year, and all the mothers who’ll be opening the new Mamma Mia DVD, I have found a gift that trumps everything that 99.9% of the world’s population will be getting come the big day. And it’s a gift given from Iron Man to Captain America.
Well, Robert Downey Jr to Chris Evans, to be more precise. Back when the pair were filming the epic Avengers: Infinity War, Downey gifted Evans a beautiful 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, custom designed by Downey himself for his fellow Avenger. The result was one of the most glorious custom Camaros I’ve ever seen.
Built by Wisconsin-based company Speedkore - who’re the nutters responsible for putting Twin-Turbos on a Dodge Demon, boosting power to 1400bhp - this is a Camaro that’s dedicated to Chris Evans and his super-soldier kin. This fact is prominent in each and every detail - all of which were created at the behest of Downey Jr.
Painted in a subtle shade of army green, the contrasting two-tone brown interior suits it perfectly. In the centre of the steering wheel lies a tiny greyscale replica of Captain America’s signature shield. And upon opening the door, you find a plaque denoting the car’s name: the Steve Rogers Special Edition.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 6.2L LS3 V8, which in this application has a 2.9L supercharger forcing air into it. The result is 730bhp at the crank, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic gearbox. For cruising around LA, it’s just about the perfect car. Whether it’ll cruise into Avengers: Endgame, only time will tell.
Despite this not being a Christmas gift, I do feel there’s an important moral that can be taken away from it and applied to the festive season. At this time of year, we tend to buy gifts for people more so out of obligation and for the sake of our own conscious than for the people we’re actually supposed to be buying for. If you ask Martin Lewis, he’ll tell you the antidote to this is to simply tell everyone that you’re not buying anyone any Christmas presents this year. I disagree with that however - because I believe the greatest remedy for this phenomenon is to simply buy everyone a customised classic muscle car. I know - I should charge hourly rates for advice like this (!)
You can watch this car in action on Jay Leno’s Garage in the below video. Trust me - it’s worth a watch.
Just out of curiosity, if you were to receive a classic muscle car for Christmas, what would you want it to be? Let me know in the comments.
