Every now and then, a unique car that goes up for sale or crosses the auction block can truly steal your heart, and this incredibly blue and absolutely adorable hot-rodded 1970 Porsche 914/6 up for auction on Bring a Trailer is a prime example.

Diminutive in size and utterly cute when its pop-up headlights are up, the 914's striking bodywork has been given a few enhancements such as widened fender flares, a modified front bumper with a larger air inlet for its oil cooler, a reworked rear valance that sports a set of dual exhaust tips, and some 16-inch black Fuchs alloys, and these many body modifications are clear indicators that this is certainly no ordinary 914/6.

That's because where the 110bhp 2.0-litre flat-six from the Porsche 911 T of the day once resided in the back, there's now a 3.6-litre flat-six lifted from a 1998 Porsche 911 – that being the 993 generation – paired to a five-speed 915 transaxle with a Centerforce clutch, 916-style Wevo shift linkage, and a limited slip differential.

To help it handle the extra power it's now packing, a range of upgraded front suspension components from a 930 911, reinforced rear trailing arms, and 930 brakes have been fitted.

Inside, the 914/6 has also been jazzed up with some leather-wrapped Konig bucket seats, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, and VDO gauges that have been rebuilt and modified to round out this unique build that was originally completed between 1995 and 1999.

What's most unique about this particular car, however, is that the original 2.0-litre engine that was once in the back is also included as part of the sale, with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming it to be so, along with Adriatic Blue to indeed be the car's original colour.

Additionally, a copy of Excellence magazine from 2000 in which it was featured, a tool kit, car cover, service records, and a placard from the 2019 Werks Reunion in Monterrey, California are also included with the car.

Currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, at the time of publication there are just under 8.5 hours remaining to bid on it.

I know that if I had the coin I'd be very tempted to put a bid in on this beaut', but what do you think?

  • I have seen a few of these on Craigslist I have been thinking of snatching one up and turning it into a autocross car

  • Always dreamed of remodeling a 914 to give it a 911-isch roofline and bigger engine. This would be the perfect base! (Maybe something for the Sketchmonkey?)

  • With the exception of the color, I love it ... always dug the 914 and this looks to be a proper “restomod” of a under appreciated Porsche classic.

  • I remember Chevy small blocks in them!
