This C7 Corvette is still the fastest electric road car in the world
It's no secret that electric cars offer much more responsive acceleration than their thermal counterparts of equivalent horsepower. But once launched at high speed, electric cars start to run out of steam, before being overtaken by their thermal cousins.
However, some tuners like Genovation have decided to change this by creating very fast electric cars. The company started its activity on a sixth-generation Corvette by replacing the V8 with an electric motor. The operation was a success, the electric C6 Corvette reached 205 mph!
Genovation then moved on to the C7 Corvette. With an electric motor, the latter reached 210 mph. The car, named the Genovation GXE, already holds the speed record for an electric road car. But the company decided to strike even harder and set itself the goal of beating its own record.
The Genovation GXE then hit 211.8 mph! This record has been certified by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA). The secret of such a high speed? Either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a seven-speed manual gearbox. If you're tempted, 75 units will be sold for $750,000. The first vehicles will be delivered in 2020.
