If you happen to live in an area that’s susceptible to frequent zombie outbreaks, you may wanna consider this one-off 1984 Land Rover Series 3 ‘Gunship’. It’s equipped with actual machine guns but it’s still road legal.

It was originally built in Solihull (where Richard Hammond was born, btw) and used by the German Army. After being decommissioned in the 2000s, it was acquired by a couple of military enthusiasts in York, who then sold it John Brown 4X4, a tuning company that specialises in Land Rover restorations.

It‘s fitted with two replica machine guns (.30 and .50 caliber) made by a UK company called Crossfire. John Brown also added new shock absorbers and brakes, a new fan belt, and a new carburettor.

"The military features and touches all over this Land Rover come together to create an exceptional SAS car recreation. The two dummy machine guns fitted to the car, in .30 and .50 caliber specifications, really catch your attention," said Greg Hendry, marketing manager at John Brown 4x4.

The Gunship is currently being offered with no reserve. RM Sotheby's is hosting the auction in Chobam, Uk and the auction house expects the Land Rover Gunship to sell for around £10,000 - £20,000, which sounds about right considering the current bid (after 6 bids) is £10,000 with two days to go.

  • So around $35k for the Land Rover, this includes final price, maintenance, shipping and various other expenses.

But the replica machine guns have got to go. I’m an a American, and furthermore I’m a Texan, I have a reputation to uphold.

A transferable M1919 is going to cost about $25,000 to$30,000

A transferable M2 Browning is going to cost $40,000 to $50,000

    Than there’s the Ammo cost:

Decent .30-06 is going to cost you about $0.90 per round so we’re looking at $90 per 100 round belts, not too bad…

Then there’s .50 BMG which is… not cheap. At about $4 per round (not even the fun Armor piercing incendiary stuff) that’s $400 per 100 round belt.

So all in we’re going to need at least $130,000 to do it all properly, which sadly, is just a bit out of my price range… maybe next time.

    • It’ll be SERIOUSLY underpowered if it carries a real MaDeuce and .30cal and sufficient ammo. Oh, wait, they came from the factory (or shed) completely underpowered. You might want to re-weld the entire frame before touching off a belt of...

  • If I could, I'd buy that in a heartbeat and fit with real machine guns, no dummy props for me. It's totally awesome and well worth at least what it's being offered for and more, in my opinion.
