Racing drivers share the same genes as military jet fighters when it comes to hand-eye coordination and pure instinct. The standout feature of these superhumans has to be their speed of thought which is often displayed when travelling at speeds that most of us can only simulate in the latest F1 game.

The latest display of such skills comes from a recent IndyCar race in which Canadian James Hinchcliffe almost span out while negotiating some traffic. Indycar has somewhat been budged from the limelight after the whole Alonso fiasco died down but thanks to this ridiculous save, the motorsport is very much back in our sites.

While surging down the banking at Pocono Raceway, Hinchcliffe manages to get himself into one hell of a situation at what we imagine must be around the 180mph mark, needing a massive correction of steering as the rear of the vehicle tries to overtake him.

How he manages to avoid the wall is beyond most of us considering the amount of steering input he has to implement to avoid a serious accident. The car may not have been too sideways when you see the replay, but at the speeds that these guys drive around the banked circuits of America, the slightest loss of traction of balance can lead to the need for evasive action:

  • If that scared the commentators then they shouldn't ever watch WRC . They will have a freaking heart attack . That was clickbait at best

    • Agreed, at best it was a high speed twitch. I'm sure it was a bum clenching moment but that is what Indy Car is about, flat out racing.

  • Seiously overcooked by the announcers. We Canadians see worse than that on the highways around Toronto every day of the week. ;)

  • Best thing in this video is hearing commentator talk about F1.
