This Is The C8 Corvette's Mid-Engined Powerplant: A Twin-Turbo V8
The new Corvette situation is becoming more clear
In another episode of the "GM's Worst Kept Secret", the Internet has more proof that General Motors has been working on a mid-engined sports car. Most have been calling this the C8, the next generation Corvette, which will either replace or add to the tried and true front-engined-rear-wheel-drive configuration.
Between spy shots of test engineers frantically covering the mid-engined car, the Corvette plant tour being suspended for 18 months, the obviously-not-a-ZR1 set of front and rear fascias, and now to a leaked CAD image of the new powerplant, we are definitely looking at the successor to the old 'Aerovette' concept from 1977.
The CAD rendering clearly shows the positioning of the engine with respect to the rest of the car, as the quad exhaust tips are visible in the upper portion of the image. The twin-turbochargers are seen hanging outside of the V-8 configuration, while the intake ports are plumbed to the aft of the engine bay to some presumably very large heat exchangers.
Front Fascia of the mid engined Corvette?
Rear Fascia of the mid engined Corvette?
Definitely mid engined
No power figures have been leaked out yet, but if you have any guesses please share your thoughts in the comments below. Given that the Corvette's existing naturally/aspirated 6.2 liter direct injected V8 produces 455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, which is good enough to bring it from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, I envision the new powerplant, dubbed the LT7, is going to deliver the same type of power, but with slightly different displacement due to the added forced induction.

Guys, what if we’re all wrong? What if it turns out this isn’t a Corvette but a new Pontiac Fiero 😂
