This is the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020. Just Yes.
That’s right, at the Tokyo Auto Salon on 10th January 2020, Honda will unveil something called the ‘Honda Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020’ … possibly the best name ever given to any car ever. Period.
Based on the iconic EK9 Honda Civic Type R (the Type R variant of the first-generation Civic), Honda have said that it’ll apparently reflect “a neo-Japan where the near future and underground are disturbed”, whatever that means.
Other than the above image, there’s not much word on what this ‘new’ Honda Civic greatest name ever thing will actually be … but expect a modified and modernised version of the 90’s tuner icon (hopefully with neons and outrageous graphics. Come on Honda, let’s go full Need for Speed).
Now, it’s almost certain that this Civic won’t become anything more than a one-off homage to the legendary EK9 Civic but it’s still fun to dream and, as the project has been managed by Honda Access – Honda’s accessory department – there’s every chance you’ll get some bits for your own Civic. We’ll just have to wait and see on that.
But wait! There’s more! Yep, someone within Honda Access has been having a bit of a nostalgia trip, as they’ve also created something very special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the incredible S2000.
No, it’s not a new S2000, sorry! It is, however, a specially modified show car named the ‘Honda S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype’.
You can read more about the S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype in Sunny Lam’s brilliant recent post, so I won’t labour on this much, but it’s basically an S2000 that features modernised styling, uprated suspension and a new stereo. All sources say that the engine and gearbox masterpieces have remained untouched.
As with the Civic, there’s no word on whether it’ll be a one-off or whether you’ll be able to buy the parts as accessories for your own S2000; here’s hoping you can because it looks epic. I might even have to buy my old S2000 back … gosh, I miss it.
Regardless of whether anything comes from these two or not, I can’t help but be excited about both of them. It’s like returning to my JDM filled youth. More of this please, Honda. Which one are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments, yo!
