At the start of the year, we told you that a very special prototype Ford Mustang GT350R was going to be sold at Mecum auctions. The legendary muscle car also driven by Ken Miles, was sold for $3.85 million, becoming the most expensive Ford Mustang ever sold at an auction.

Nicknamed the "Flying Mustang", this car was an engineering test mule and was the foundation for the second team race car.

This Mustang was codenamed 5R002 and has been driven by Bob Bondurant, Chuck Cantwell, Peter Brock, and Jerry Titus and some guy called Ken Miles.

After being a famous centrepiece for 14 years at the Shelby American Museum in Boulder, Colorado, this Mustang was bought by Shelby collector John Atzbach in 2010 who then restored the car. The restoration took “thousands of hours” but the results were fantastic.

Now, this Mustang GT350R has become the most expensive Mustang ever sold at an auction, taking the crown from Steve McQueen’s Ford Mustang which featured in a movie called 'Bullitt'.

  • I’m not really a muscle car enthusiast, but I’d love a RHD converted Dodge Chellenger Hellcat

  • People who opted for “I don’t like muscle cars” are really weird.
