With Liberty Media in full swing and the 2018 season now in our sights, they've taken it upon themselves to screw up... sorry, I mean change the logo. It was unveiled at the final race of 2017 at Abu Dhabi and will be used for their 2018 advertising campaign.
The original and probably most well known logo for a racing series, or maybe even sport, has been used since 1987, and it has now been replaced by... this.
Chief Sean Bratches said the decision to change the logo came from the old design not being useful for modern digital platforms and should be changed because of that, similar to Coca Cola and Starbucks.
"Look at Starbucks, or Coca Cola which has taken the condensation off their logo to enter digital. We felt we had to go a little bit further and really retool to position us on a going forward basis," he said.
F1 chairman, Chase Carey told Sky F1 the following:
"What we wanted to do was provide a fresh energy to the sport and I think we have a lot of plans for the future, a lot of things we want to do and we thought the logo was a good way to emphasise the excitement, fresh energy and a new day to take the sport to a new place,

"That's respecting what the sport has been. We're not looking to change the sport, we're looking to provide a fresh innovation and energy to a great sport that we can enhance in a number of ways."
