This Maloo ute is projected to sell for over a million dollars in Australia
It's one of just four GTS-R W1 Maloos created by Holden Special Vehicles.
The most expensive brand-new production car you can buy in Australia without signing up for a special list is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, topping the price chart at just under one million AUD. But apparently, a few eager car buyers have chosen to ignore all the car dealers - ending up on the Australian auction site Lloyds Online, with the intent to spend near to over a million dollars on a Holden ute.
Currently, bidding stands at a whopping A$735,000 (or for the Americans and Europeans, $570,000 USD / €470,000), and that's before you account for the 7.5% auction premium.

With only 618km showing on the odo, the 'Light My Fire' orange coloured Holden Special Vehicles GTS-R W1 Maloo ute is powered by a 474kW/815Nm (636hp) 6.2 litre supercharged LS9 V8 from the decade old C6 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. A close-ratio Tremec six-speed manual garbox drives the substantial power to the rear wheels, and the W1 treatment comes with a plethora of other goodies.

At its current bid, the Maloo W1 is already costing more than a brand new Ferrari 812 Superfast or Rolls Royce Wraith - and is nearing the price of a brand new Lamborghini Aventador S - so why are collectors paying so much for them when they could be driving away in flash new supercars?
As it turns out, HSV ended up making 275 GTS-R W1 sedans, but after discovering that the business of selling W1 utes didn't make too much sense for them as it would cost too much to calibrate and setup correctly, HSV decided to scrap the W1 ute project - ending up only making four utes; with two standard GTS-R Maloos later modified by Walkinshaw Performance to match.
So it goes without saying that the GTS-R W1 Maloo is a very rare car, and one that marked the finals days of not only Holden as a brand, but of the entire Australia motor industry. It stands for a lot, so if you think it's truly worth high six digit figures - get bidding. But even then you might lose out, as theres still over 17 days left in the Auction at the time of writing, with projections of the price hitting seven digit figures.
