One brand decided to stay away from the top speed arms race in the 2000s was Porsche, having not been at the top of the list since the 959. But that didn’t stop tuners seeing the potential in the 911 platform and taking aim at the big boys.

The most famous of them all was the Porsche 9ff GT9, a project that – if given the space – had the potential to hit the top of the leaderboard. I explain just how vicious this Frankenstein Porsche could have been.
