This replica Ford GT40 is a must have for any petrolhead
If you don't know about the Ford GT40 then you probably shouldn't be reading this at all. It is one of the most iconic cars in the world and most definitely in the top three to ever come out of America. However, this isn't a Ford GT40 as such. This is a replica, and a very impressive one at that.
Your average real Ford GT40 would set you back around $12 million. This isn't that easy to get, especially since not many people are willing to sell them either. This one however, is 'just' £336,000. As well as the car itself you will also get a plaque with the names of the 25 employees who helped in the original car’s success – and a guitar. I don't quite know why you get a guitar but anyway, moving on...
Only 50 will be built in total and they will be imported to the UK via Le Mans Coupes Ltd. Company boss Oliver Hulme said: “With the much vaunted Ford vs Ferrari film due out in November, interest in the GT40 is the highest it’s been for years, and climbing.”
This is a very good point. This film will bring in a lot more interest for the car therefore more potential buyers who forgot about it.
What I find fascinating is that this is such a close copy of the real car that more than 90 per cent of the parts are interchangeable with an original GT40. The chassis is also an exact copy of the original. You will have the choice of two engines. You can either have a 5.0L V8 or a 7.0L. Both supplied by Roush themselves so you can imagine how these would sound.
As you can see, this is a great little package for a not too bad amount of money. It may not be the real thing but it's pretty damn close.
