This Subaru Impreza 22B sold for $312,555
You could by a decent sized house in Texas for this money!
With 25k miles (40k kilometers) on the odometer, this 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B has been driven quite a bit for a collectors car, but does it justify the high price?
I had a close eye on this particular Subaru Impreza 22B when it had a crazy high bid of $155,000 and 7 days left 'till the auction closed, in which the bidder at the time justified he was "keeping it in place so he could secure the car" ....which didn't happen.
Though it can't be driven over 2,500 miles (4,023 kilometers) because it was imported under a show or display exemption under the NHTSA, but while it's less than 25 years old, the NHTSA requires a thorough inspection to get it registered.
The power output from the 22B is rated at 280 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque from an intercooled 2.2 L flat four with no issues and with a redline at 7,900 rpm.
The Impreza 22B's incredible price also comes from its rarity, only 400 were produced for the Japanese market, this specific example being number 156, noted on a plaque.
With a common 180 kmh speedometer from every other Japanese car of the era, it features a leather wrapped steering wheel with black and blue cloth seats intended to match the exterior color with the STi logo implemented into the backrests.
For now, this is the most expensive Subaru Impreza 22B to be sold at an online auction to date.
