This SUV was designed by the same man who gave us the Cullinan, and it shows
And yes, it comes from China
This is the Hongqi E-HS9, an SUV made by the same company that built the presidential ‘H9’ sedan that Clarkson drove in China on The Grand Tour. The Chinese automaker ‘borrowed’ several design cues from Rolls-Royce but that’s because the E-HS9 was designed by Giles Taylor, the same designer who gave us the Cullinan.
The E-HS9 is only available in China and Norway at the moment but the company says they want to sell it in other European countries as well. It is a bit smaller than the Cullinan - 5.2 mt x 2.01 x 1.71 mt - and it’s electric, equipped with two electric motors for a combined power output of 321 hp. It’s not that bad, even though the car’s heavy: 2,610 kg.
The 99 kWh battery pack gives it a range of around 465 km (289 miles). According to Hongqi, the top speed is 112 mph and 0-60 only takes 4.9 seconds.
So how much? Well, technically you can only buy it in EV-friendly Norway, where it’s priced from €85,000 (£72k).
What do you think? Discount Rolls-Royce Cullinan or a valid alternative to, say, the BMW X7? Would you drive one?
