This time-attack ferrari 550 is the V12 hillclimb car you've always wanted
The Ferrari 550 isn't the most obvious prancing horse to convert for racing purposes, considering in roadcar form it is very much the quintessential V12 grand tourer that went up against the Aston Martin Vanquish back in the day. But where there's a will, there's a way, and this hillclimb footage shows the true potential of the car superseded by the more-powerful 575.
Recorded at the Reventino Hillclimb in Italy, this 550 is stripped out, lowered and sports a serious aero package, making it surprisingly nimble across the twisting mountain tarmac.
Back in 2001, the legendary Prodrive skunkworks took a 550 and race-prepped it for the FIA GT and the American Le Mans Series. The car - seemingly very similar in technical makeup to this hillclimb monster - managed a class victory at Le Mans in 2003 which led to Prodrive getting the call from Aston Martin to come and work on its endurance racing programme.
So, despite it's large footprint, the Ferrari 550 has some serious talent under its GT body. The want is strong.
