This vid shows why the Aspark Owl Is Still The Maddest Electric Car We've Seen
With the ability to bend space and time, Japan's Aspark Owl is a hypercar in every way. With a $3.6 million price tag, 1,150 horsepower, and the ability to rocket from 0 to 60 in 1.92 seconds we're ready to forgive the lack of noise from the Aspark's electric motors.
It's no secret that electric cars are quick, their ability to deliver huge amounts of torque immediately allows them to reach levels of performance previously considered impossible. Aspark is currently working to create a car that can repeatably hit that fabled sub-second 0 to 60 time.
In the below video released in 2018 Aspark was testing a prototype riding on Hoosier racing slicks. This acceleration test resulted in a 1.92 0 to 60 run something that's unheard of in a street capable car. The car used in the video only claimed to have 430 horsepower which is significantly less than the current plans for 1,1150 horsepower.
Aspark is a small Japan-based engineering firm so they currently only plan to build 50 Owls. Unfortunately we haven't heard much from Aspark as of late, hopefully, they're just too busy breaking the 0 - 60 world record to send out press releases.
When compared to the latest competition from other boutique electric supercar manufacturers like Rimac the Aspark has it's work cut out for it. The Rimac 2 claims 1,914 horsepower and 1,696 lb-ft of torque with a supposed top speed of 256 mph. The Rimac 2 also claims a 0 to 60 time of only 1.85 seconds. It seems like wealthy electric car nerds are going to need more neck support to in case they sneeze while accelerating.
With the rapidly advancing electric car market, it's incredible to see just how far they've come so quickly. Aspark is currently planning on a run to break the Nurburgring product car lap record, a goal that would send shock waves throughout the automotive community.
