This week I’m in Lima, Peru finishing up my MBA from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. More specifically, I’m in the toney district of Miraflores.
I took a nice 5 mile walk along the Pacific Ocean. The views are simply stunning. Miraflores roughly translates to Look at the Flowers. And indeed the flowers are stunning as one walks the winding paved walking paths.
Venturing inland revealed an enveloping sense of greenery giving you a nice hug. But the best part was finding this Volkswagen Bug. I have no idea what year it is, but it is nice to see Beetles on the road.
My first car was a 1966 Beetle. My dad had it restored lovingly for me. It too was red, though originally it was a minty green. I should’ve kept it original. In the end it didn’t matter. I was still shy of 16 and my brother had wrecked his car. I think you know how this ends: my Beetle ended up in a junk yard. It was replaced by a mid-70’s El Camino.
Seeing this Beetle brought me back to my teenage years if only briefly. I found it endearing. An odd thing I’ve noticed are aftermarket folding side mirrors. I suppose it’s a must have in Peru.
