Three Classic Alfa’s You Need In Your Life
This Could all end in tears, here are three classic Alfa’s so utterly stunning you need to buy them......
1984 Alfasud 1.5 TI 105
One of the biggest challenges in buying an old Alfa is that most of them have rusted away. In the case of this Alfasud though it has been saved via a full nut and bolt restoration.
The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine produces 104bhp, and while this may not sound like a great deal you have to remember that this a car from a different era. It only has 895kg of weight to lug around with that double-barrel carb motor and will make 60mph in 11.1 seconds.
Equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox this ‘Sud’ has covered only 73,000 miles in the last 33 years. According to 'howmanyleft.co.uk' this is one of 27 roaming the roads of the UK in 2017.

1986 Spider 115
The Alfa Spider is one of those cars that has become something of a pop culture icon, this is mainly thanks to it playing a staring role in The Graduate in 1967.
This series 3 model is a fresh off the boat import from Japan – it’s clear that this Spider has spent its life in a warm climate as none of the usual rust issues are present on that very pretty Pininfarina designed body. In fact, for a 31-year-old car, it all appears to be very clean and in excellent shape all round.
From every angle the Spider looks stunning, from those classic twin flowing lines on the outside to the black leather seats with the contrasting wooden rimmed steering wheel on the inside – even the engine bay looks like the work of an Italian sculpture artist.

1995 164 Cloverleaf Quadrifoglio Verde
The final choice is one of the greatest looking cars ever to roll out off the Arese production line, the Pininfarina designed 164 saloon. This ‘QV’ version is the hottest model boasting a 232ps V6, 24-valve motor capable of propelling this big saloon to 60mph in 7.0 seconds dead. Quick by 2017 standards let alone back in 1995.
This example has all the hallmarks of a car that has been loved throughout its 22-year life; it boasts a long history file having only covered a mere 91,600 miles. This rich and expensive history includes a full repaint and the renewal of very important engine components including the cam-belt and ECU.
The futuristic boxy styling still looks just epic after all these years. That two-tone black/red finish is absolutely Alfa, and the Italian influence on the inside is ever-present, just look at that interior, all out Alfa greatness right there.

Please buy this book and read it.
My favorite alfas are the 105 series. I have a 1972 gt 1600 junior (since I was 13) and also a 1965(ish) era guilia sprint gt. Both are project cars and I will never let them go. My junior has been in the family since 1973 and it was the car that my mother learned to drive in. The guilia I bought for next to nothing from a scrapyard (abandoned project) and that one is next on the list of projects.
Love this car
only the 164 for me if I was adding to my stable. The Sud isn't special enough (ford escorts were better) and I always thought the Spider is slab-sided, overlong, saggy, and not that pretty. plus it really outstayed it's welcome, like the XJS.
but the 164? Mythically Brilliant.
That really is a piece of art that you have there, considering it even have the right wheel drive. Congratulations for making this little jewel keep some more years to go ;)
I'd go rather with my own line-up... Alfa 33 1.5QV, Alfa 75 2.0TS and 916 (Spider 3.0 24V and GTV 2.0tb). The QV was a really special car - yet alone from the cockpit's design. My 75 was transformed into a "Ring-Tool" and was enormously fun to drive at the Nordschleife (and it used to be the last Transaxle layout). The 916s imho are just gorgeous designs - they still look modern and I really enjoyed them with the Busso V6...
