Look at that. No back bumper, no taillights, no detail on that "dump gate".

I love customizing the Ertl "medium duty 7.3" Ford truck that they've been making for the past 20+ years. Decently scaled and proportioned, easy to take apart, abundant, cheap... this one was found at Goodwill and I immediately had a plan for it.

I sanded the dump bed so it would take paint better and would have a typical "hard worked" appearance, and before painting it in Apple Barrel "Pavement" acrylic craft paint, I glued on some custom-cut basswood appliques for the dump gate and a rear bumper/taillight bar, ensured they wouldn't affect the dump bed's function, and then painted all that, along with the wheel centers, rear frame, panel lines in the cab, taillights, and rear window.
