Throughout production of the Golf MK2, a number of external style revisions were made. The most obvious changes to the appearance of the Golf MK2 included removal of front quarterlight windows, and introduction of larger grille slats on the August 1987 facelift. The most notable change was the introduction of "Big Bumpers", which came to UK models on the August 1989 facelift. These were also available in the US, as part of the "Wolfsburg Edition".
