- The collision between Rossi and Marquez

TIME TO USE THE GOOD OLD BLACK FLAG

Two riders went too far in Argentina. The race direction showed a total lack of leadership while MotoGP is on a dangerous course.

The crash of Rossi is the result of a much deeper problem here. Riders have not been punished for a while and this is what happened. Lorenzo in 2015 overtook with the yellow flag still out, unpunished. Marquez remained unpunished after all he has done in 2015. Simoncelli was shredded to pieces for nothing compared to what Marquez did. In 1998, Biaggi got a black flag after overtaking with the yellow flag and ignoring the penalty given to him. According to the rules, this is a fair punishment but let's take a look now at what happened last Sunday.

WHAT HAPPENED IN ARGENTINA

ALL RIDERS ARE EQUAL IN FRONT OF THE RULES BUT SOME RIDERS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHeRS

Miller did everything right, he was brave in qualifying and took the right decision when it came to tires. The other 23 riders took the wrong decision of using the rain setup and the start was delayed. The book says that you should start from the pit lane but having 23 riders packed elbow to elbow would have been dangerous. See Sachsenring 2014. So that was a wise decision. It was unfair toward Miller but safe for everyone.

Marquez stall the engine of his bike and again the rules are pretty clear here. You have to immediately leave the grid and start from the pit lane. He ignored the marshall and saying that he didn't know the rule is not an excuse. The right punishment for this is not a ride through but a black flag. The ride through made everything worse. It made him aggressive with the notion that he could get away with it.

RIDING LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING

An overtake among professional riders is never easy and when they have the same lap time it gets trickier. It's important to keep in mind that there is a huge difference between hard overtaking and crashing into someone. Now riding one second faster than the top and still not being able to overtake without crashing into others is not great riding. It's just a mess. Zarco needed to be punished too after is dangerous maneuver on Pedrosa. Zarco understood what he did was wrong and he didn't attempt anything similar for the rest of the race.

HANDLE IT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

I totally agree with a journalist who said that Marquez needs a proper punishment, like ban him for two races. This is the only way to avoid the situation to escalate.

  • Couldn't agree more. It is racing and crashes happen. But four incidents in one race...

  • That should be true if it's like you say.
