Top 10 Funniest Tweet Awards - Russian Grand Prix 2021
This week: TV direction misses the action, wrecking balls, Bambi on Ice, strategy goes wrong & fans hold their breath as the rain begins falls
Oh my goodness me, talk about the agony and the ecstasy.
The elation of a maiden pole yesterday for Lando Norris turned into agony. As the weather turned, he and the team made the wrong decision to stay out, and he saw his first win, which had been in his grasp, slip away as he slid around the track.
For Hamilton, it was the opposite. An unusual mistake in qualifying (bumping the wall on the entry to the pitlane in Q3) saw him qualify in P4, and then being swallowed up at the start of the race saw him running P7, trying desperately to clear Danny Ric. Some good team strategy, clear air, and the rain saw him take the chequered flag first, and his 100th win.
That aside, it was an action-packed race. Just a shame tv director missed most of the great stuff, so we had to do with watching the replays 🙄
Verstappen drove the proverbial nuts off his Red Bull and was on for 5th, when the rain and a few mistakes helped him to grab 2nd. Bottas finished 5th, despite the strategic engine penalty to try and keep Verstappen behind him. And George Russell finished in the points.
And while I was keeping one eye on the on-track action, the other eye was scrolling through my Twitter notifications. With the race over and a well-needed cup of tea, I have judged this week's entries.
