TOP 5 0.0% BEER: part I, the Netherlands
For all designated drivers and/or beer lovers in the Netherlands this summer.
When I go speed-skating with my dad, I drive. When my sister and/ or her boyfriend needs a ride, I drive. When my friends and I go someplace, I drive. The university I go to is 49km from where I live, I drive. When I go on holiday, I drive. I am the designated driver no matter where I go. I love to drive, but as a beerlover this used to suck sometimes. However, with the upswing of alcohol free beers that time is gone. So, I have listed the top 5 choices for 0.0% alcohol beer for the summer holiday in the Netherlands.
Rules are simple. All beers have to be 0.0% alcohol. All beers have to be so widely available they can be purchased wherever you drive to in the country.
5. Grolsch Radler citroen 0.0% minder zoet
Most Radler beers with or without alcohol taste like sweet lemonade. However, this Radler tastes like a beer with some lemon. 'Minder zoet' means less sweet and it brings out the bitterness and sourness of this beer. This isn't very special or exciting, but it's a summer classic that is never disappointing. For only 5.- euros a sixpack, the price quality ratio is sufficient but not great. I give this beer 2 stars.

4. Affligem Blond 0.0%
This belgian abbey blond beer is one of those beers that is enjoyed by everyone. Good taste, rich in flavour, not too light nor too heavy. So the alcohol free version was a bit of a disappointment. It still tastes exquisit, but there is this sweetness that is a bit of a downer when you are used to the regular Affligem blond beer. Price Quality ratio is fine at 5.39 euros for a sixpack (6 X 0.33l). Over all I give it 2 stars.

3. Heineken 0.0%
This is just a beer, but without alcohol. It tastes like a Heineken pilsner, nothing special. I like it! We all like our latté with some fancy coffee liqeur, but how many things beat the burned terrible coffee you drink everyday. At 3.49 euros for a sixpack (6 X 0.25l) the price quality is not bad but could be better. I'll give this 3 stars.

2. Wieckse Witte 0.0%
Fresh, fruity and a hint of coriander. This is a summer favorite with no shortage of flavour. They serve this or a similar 0.0% 'white' beer on every terras. There are few things I love doing more after a workout than sit on a terras and have some lunch combined with this beer. At 4.39 euros for a sixpack (6 X 0.33l) the price quality ratio is very good.

1. Bavaria IPA 0.0%
This is one of my favorite beers. I'd drink this when someone else is driving. Full of flavour. It tastes hoppy and fresh with a slight bitterness to it. Why is this number 1 on the list? It tastes still good enough warm. Let me explain. This is a real summer beer. You are going to buy this at the local Albert Heijn for 4.49 euros and drive to the beach with your mates. Your friends will drink something else than 0.0% beer and when the regular beer is gone at 4 in the afternoon all that is left is half a sixpack of this stuff. No cooler can manage 3 hours at the beach with 30 degrees in the sun. That beer is going to be warm. The price quality ratio is outstanding. I'll give this beer the full 5 star rating.
