TOP 5 F1 SAFETY CARS
There have been some cracking machines leading the Formula 1 field over the years
The Safety Car. It always throws a curveball into a Formula 1 race. Primarily used for safety, its usage means that we often are treated to an interesting GP - see Australia and Bahrain in 2018.
The car itself has undergone many iterations during the years, with many of those machines lost in depths of history. It's high time then that we remember how good these safety cars have been. Here are the top 5 F1 safety cars:
LAMBORGHINI DIABLO - CANADIAN GP 1995
Before Mercedes began supplying the Safety Car, we often had a mish mash with different cars appearing every weekend. The 1995 Canadian GP saw this tasty Lamborghini Diablo in use. I won't lie, I prefer this to what we have now. It looks so bloody cool.
MERECEDES AMG GT R - 2018
We have to include the current safety car really. With faster F1 cars the sport needed a new safety car for 2018. This beast of a car looks mean and does the job just as well. So far this season it's also helped liven up some races which always gets a thumbs up.
PORSCHE 914 - 1973
The first time a 'safety car' was used was in 1973. A yellow Porsche 914 was the machine and, well, you couldn't miss it, especially with those yellow flags hanging off the back. With an apparent campsite in the run off area, I'm not entirely sure what the point of this car was but at least they tried.
LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH - MONACO 1981, 1982, 1983
This sexy beast was used at the Monaco GP three times during the 1980s. They're hanging a chequered flag out the window for some unbeknown reason but who cares because LOOK AT IT. *drool*
RENAULT CLIO F1 - ARGENTINA 1996
The last car on this list is one of the last random safety cars before Mercedes took the reigns properly towards the end of 1996. If you think hot hatch, you never really think F1 safety car. That didn't stop this Renault making an appearance though.

It would be nice to see more variety in the new safety cars. Has been a silver Mercedes for so long now, they’re nice but its getting a bit boring.
Monza racing circuit used to and still do have a old Ferrari at the rear of the grid when race starts I have noticed it a few times now
As I recall it's a 348 and it's owned by one of the volunteer marshalls. They let him display it because Monza 😉
This was inspired by my "Safety car driver" article, wasn't it? Yes I know I'm a legend.
And for people with "mouths of meal", this was just a joke man.
I honestly hadn’t seen it until now, good article man!
Thank you! Trying to get to the level of the articles over here. This page is just brilliant

Wait, is the Countach some sort of moving finish line? Haha. Cool article.
