Top Gear 06-11: Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster

Why special edition?

The amazing eight minutes review fully packed with all the excitement and the thrills that Richard enjoyed during his test drive of the Murcielago Roadster in Spain. I don't doubt it would be on my list of Richard's best Top Gear car reviews.

About the car

From 0 to 60 mph in about 3.8 seconds. 572 bhp. V12. Top speed 205 mph. £190,000. Weighs the same (about 2 tons) as the hardtop version.

The engineering

'Firstly, there's the way this thing looks at speed on the road. I mean, look at it! It's 7cm lower than the hardtop. Now it looks like a missile!'

'By using engineering witchcraft, the roadster comes out at the same weight as the hardtop. So, it's not slow.'

'0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds and the top speed of 205 mph. That'll be great in some light-weight track day Porsche thing, but in this, which is as wide as a suspension bridge and weighs nearly 2 tons, it's unbelievable!'

The roof

'After 5 minutes, all I'd succeeded in doing was attracting a crowd. So, I recruited some help in my textbook Spanish.'

'Have you ever put the roof on a Lamborghi.. nio.. Roads.. te.. ro???'

'The roof, then, is a classic Italian supercar afterthought. It's rubbish.'

The details

'Look at those wheels. They're a unique design for the roadster.'

'Even the carbon fibre latticework across the engine bay is a work of art.'

'As a whole, this car is a thing of beauty.'

The driving

'This is just so exciting! Every sense is tingling! The acceleration is shattering! It comes from no revs at all!'

'What's so great about the Murcielago Roadster is that it delivers all these thrills without the spills.'

'The amount of grip is simply mind-boggling. Corners just rush up and you tear around, and then, there's the next ones on you and it just eats them up.'

'It just demands more and more and more!'

Epilogue

'Engineers today spend a lot of time trying to separate us from the noise and the mechanics of what's actually going on. Not so this time. This still presses all of the right buttons. This is still a Lambo.'

'It's what you might call "a rare breed".'

From Tribe Leader

While I was once driving along a beautiful seaside road near Tokyo, my car passed four amazingly modified Lamborghini Aventador Roadsters in a row, which was the most shocking car porn I'd ever seen. I still can't believe it actually happened in real life. At that moment, I knew from experience how the powerful magic of the Lamborghini stole our hearts. Its irresistible appeal won me over instantly and completely. Richard's excitement in the Murcielago Roadster reminded me of the unforgettable moment, filling me with awe of the Lamborghini badge once again.
