Toyota has done it again: meet the Tacozilla

Gotta love the SEMA

Another year, another SEMA, another crazy Toyota: this is the Tacozilla, which is basically a camper that the Japanese automaker will build for what must be its favorite event of the year. Okay, yes, it’s just a render image, but the finished product will [sort of] look like this.

The SEMA, named after the Specialty Equipment Market Association, is a trade show for tuners and car dealers, and manufacturers love it because it gives them a chance to let their hair down and make crazy stuff. Toyota is particularly good at this, I remember when they showed up with the 8-door, 26-door ‘Tundrasine’ (Tundra+Limousine) back in 2015.

This is a bit more conventional, sort of. It’s a camper built in partnership with an RV company called Chinook. Toyota did something similar in the past (pictured below) but they want this new model to look a bit better, as confirmed by Toyota Motorsports manager Marty Schwerter. "We really didn't want it to look like a refrigerator on the back of a truck," he said.

The Tacozilla will be based on the Tacoma TRD Sport with a manual transmission, and it should be equipped with a foldable dining table, a small kitchen and perhaps even a toilet.

The 2021 SEMA Show will take place from November 2-5, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

  • He said motorhome. That alone tells me there going to try to pack as much crap into this as possible and compete with motorhomes. Chinook slapped a camper on the back of a truck and let the customer adapt. Guess what it worked back then. There going to try to sell a rolling house, not a weekend get away. Good luck to you.
