Toyota release AE86 film to celebrate 30 year BTCC win anniversary
Video: BTCC driver Tom Ingram races the famous AE86 around Anglesey circuit to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its British Touring Car title win
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its British Touring Car Championship title win, Toyota took the covers off its replica Chris Hodgetts Motor Sport (CHMS) Corolla GT Coupe for an outing at Anglesey alongside the current BTCC Avensis.
Toyota UK put current BTCC driver Tom Ingram behind the wheel of the AE86 to celebrate the 30 year milestone. Sadly, the actual winning car was sold off after the championship and its current whereabouts is unknown. The car used in these videos is a replica, but tackling the circuit with it still manages to put a smile on Ingram's face, who at just 23 years of age, wasn’t even born when this AE86 dominated the race track.
Tom currently races in the BTCC in a Toyota Avensis and in this interview he talks us through the differences between his Speedworks Motorsport BTCC Avensis and the champion from 30 years ago: the AE86 Corolla GT Coupe.
