Toyota will uncover their first 'real' EV next week, and it's expected to be called the BZ. While details are scarce, we know that the automaker will launch two new battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and one plug-in hybrid in the U.S soon. The electric SUV could ride on the global e-TNGA platform that was jointly developed with Subaru, and a solid-state-battery powertrain isn't out of the question. This would put Toyota way ahead of Tesla and the whole electric vehicle market.

The vehicle shown, expected to be called the BZ, might not be a concept, but a production model, however Toyota has not provided confirmation yet. The SUV will be unveiled on April 19th, 2021, for the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, which will be held in-person.

  • Electric and SUV must be the two words I least want to hear in the same sentence. This better be good.

  • I just hope Toyota stay mad with their design schemes and dont opt for originality in order to fit the general demand a bit better.

Should this also mix in the impeccable Toyota reliability record and manage comfort and space well (hopefully🤞🏻) than this might be the Toyota to go for!

  • BZ ? In the UK, that sounds like 'Bee Zed'. In the States it sounds like 'Busy'. The Toyota Busy. Will the Lexus version be the 'LAZ', the 'Lazy'? It looks like the lovechild of Cybertruck and Hyundai Ionic... and probably sod all like the production version anyway. Still, it's a start I suppose, from a manufacturer who has wasted millions on developing hydrogen fuel cell technology, that even a high school student could have told you was poor by comparison to a battery.
