Track & Shine: Mimms 2019 - Three Sisters

Shining Hondas, the screech of rubber and the sound of VTEC kicking in - Perfect combination for another Mimms meet.

Sunday, early morning and a trans Pennine drive on a quiet motorway to join an assembly of fine Hondas.

The Journey

The M62 joins the cities of Hull in the East to Liverpool in the West. It crosses the backbone of England, the Pennines, and reaches the highest point of any UK motorway at 1221 feet, (322m).

It's not normally so bereft of traffic.

The section through West Yorkshire to Greater Manchester is usually one of the most congested sections of motorway in the UK.

At this time in the morning it's a steady cruise as cameras guard sections of Smart motorway.

The destination for Mimms - Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan, Lancashire, UK.

And the Three Sisters Race Circuit.

Located within a nature reserve, an area which, during the 1970s, was reclaimed and rejuvenated from its former coal mining days when 'Three Sisters' referred to three coal mining spoil tips, or slag heaps.

Within this once brownfield site lies the circuit.

A woodland border surrounds this pretty track offering a combination of fast and tight corners.

With enough straight to stretch the legs.

And test even the smallest of cars.

Arrival

The Prelude was one of the first to arrive.

And was soon treated to various chemicals and microfibre cloths.

Still early and more Hondas arrive.

And start to prep.

And to the show itself.

The Event

Once again Hondas of all shapes and sizes congregate, and the quality and care bestowed upon each car is second to none.

Attention to Detail

Owners of Hondas are partial to a clean car.

Immaculate S2000s

The future classic - The S660 Kei car.

Fully kitted third generation CR-V.

A cherished 1975 first generation Civic.

Stunning FN2 TypeR.

OEM and modified rides.

A slammed Honda S-MX, stunning custom paint and take note of the front grill mod and flared arches.

A scene stealing, fully rebuilt, EJ Civic with H22 heart.

And a clean car requires all your essentials carefully laid out.

Inside Matters

Not content with exterior preservation/modification, interiors are also treated and cared for.

And carefully modified so as not to clash with the OEM look.

Crisp EP3 TypeR cabin going beyond OEM.

Another crisp and tidy interior in this SiR-T.

The polar opposite is the stripped out cabin of this FN2 TypeR.

Another race set up, this time within a DC5 Integra.

And then you go back in time.

The year 1990 and the third generation Prelude.

Pristine OEM interior, not even the tape deck has been swapped out.

And 10 years prior to that.

1980 Honda Prelude, the first generation.

Another pristine OEM interior.

Engine Matters

Inside the engine bay and yet more automotive pornography is on display at Mimms.

Meanwhile on the track

Hondas take to the tarmac to exercise their VTEC hearts.

The circuit was originally a karting only circuit.

Upgraded the circuit now hosts track days with the long course measuring 1500 metres.

Back to the show and away from the track.

The CTRs of Mimms

Through the generations of Civic TypeRs, (but missing the EK9 - oops).

Starting from current, the FK8.

To the FK2.

Onto the FN2.

And then the EP3.

The variety and quality of Civic on display is a tribute to the owners, a passionate breed no matter the generation owned.

And finally

I've barely scratched the surface of Mimms here at Three Sisters, so just a few more photos.

The End for now

A fantastic day - To the organisers and to all who attended - Big Thanks.

There's no better showcase for Honda excellence and individuality than Mimms.

Until the next time, hope you enjoyed this photo journey through Mimms, Three Sisters 2019.

Regards,

Richard
