Transferring your SKODA to Another State
Here are the formalities that need to be fulfilled when you are moving into a new city.
Life is all about grabbing opportunities and you have been offered a great one. The only catch? You have to move to not just another city but another state. And, you have decided to make the move. You and your wife have worked out all the details that come with moving bag and baggage. School for kids, finalising a new house and hiring movers and packers. Now comes the most important question. How are you going to move your beloved SKODA and what are the formalities involved? Is it as easy as driving across the border? Unfortunately, no.
The most critical step is the procurement of a NOC from the RTO where the vehicle is registered. This document is vital for re-registering your SKODA in the state you are moving to. It must be noted that this NOC has an expiry date before which you must re-register your SKODA.
You have to keep in mind that registration and road taxes vary from state to state and you may be entitled to get a refund or may have to pay the difference as the case maybe.
You also need a NOC from the finance company
if you have bought your SKODA on a loan. You will have to apply to your bank with supporting documents such as address proof, letter of transfer or appointment and others. The bank will then process your application and issue you a NOC.
You can drive your SKODA to the new city or transport it by carrier or train when you have received the NOC from the RTO.
Re-Registration of the SKODA.
After you have relocated your car, you need to apply to the RTO in the new city for for re-registration with these documents.
Form 29 and 30 for re-registration of the vehicle
Original Registration Certificate (RC)
Copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle
Copy of the NOC obtained from the RTO office where your vehicle was registered earlier.
Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate/Emission Test Certificate
Chassis Imprint of the vehicle.
Local address proof and ID proof of the applicant.
Applicable charges such as road tax, and others.
If you are temporarily moving to a new state for a period of 10 to 12 months, there are no formalities. You can drive without any problems.
Refund of Road Tax.
If the state you are moving to has lesser road tax than the one you are moving from, you can get a refund of the difference by submitting the following documents. The application has to be submitted to the RTO in the state where your SKODA was registered.
Application requesting a refund of road tax.
RTO Form No.16 (Duly filled and self-attested).
The copy of RC with new registration number.
The copy of RC with previous registration number.
Insurance policy document with the new vehicle registration number.
Proof of address and photo ID.
To sum up, the process of transferring your car from one state to the other can be complicated if you are not aware of the procedures. However, with a little study, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to do it on your own. However, if time is a constraint, you can use the services of agents who are aware of all the procedures to be followed. Just remember, the entire process may take up to six months.
So, be patient and explore the new state in your SKODA!
