Uber Cancels All US Self-Driving Car Tests After Woman Killed Crossing The Road
The Uber boss said the incident was 'incredibly sad' as he made the announcement
Uber has announced that it is suspending all autonomous vehicle testing in North American cities indefinitely.
The announcement comes after Elaine Herzberg, 49, was hit and killed by an Uber self-driving car as she crossed the street in Tempe, Arizona, US.
It is thought to be the first instance of an autonomous vehicle being directly involved in a fatal collision.

Police said that the accident, which happened on Sunday night, occurred whilst the car was in self-driving mode, although a human monitor was also present behind the wheel.
Herzberg was not using a pedestrian crossing when she was hit. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died within a matter of hours.

That sucks, but I think we're altogether too cynical of the tech. Still, it's smart for UBER to keep out of it, at least to satisfy customer concerns
