power generated from iceland's lava flow to be cabled under the sea bed to britain
A French asset management company has agreed to finance the implementation of a pipeline sending power from Iceland's lava flows to the UK via a 1,000 mile long cable network. The AtlanticSuperConnection could begin supplying electricity to Britain's homes within the next 5 years.
Meridiam says the pipeline will supply a mix of geothermal and hydroelectric power generated from Iceland's volcanoes and hot springs to hundreds of thousands, potentially millions of British homes.
The company also intends to build a factory in the Northwest of England to manufacture copper or aluminium cable for the installation creating a substantial number of jobs
