Up-close with the new Aston Martins
The Geneva International Motor Show might be dead, but Aston Martin decided to stick around to showcase their new babies.
The Geneva International Motor Show might be dead, but Aston Martin decided to stick around to showcase their new babies.
When the organizers of the Geneva International Motor Show decided to cancel the event three days only before officially opening its doors, the entire country was shocked. You see, this is Switzerland biggest event in terms of visitors, so it really was a "OK, this s**t is serious" kind of moment for us Swiss. However, sometimes good things can turn up within bad situations.
Last week, Aston Martin Geneva had the genius idea to host their own mini motor show. Since the cars were already in Switzerland, why not give the opportunity to people to see the cars in the flesh? On display, you could find Aston Martin's first ever SUV, the DBX. Their latest convertible, the V8 Vantage Roadster. And finally, their latest halo car, the V12 Speedster. Oh there was also this superb DBS Superleggera finished in a dark green with brown leather interior.
We would like to thank Aston Martin Geneva, Pegasus Automotive Group, and PR&Co for inviting us . Without them, this article would have never been possible. Aston Martin Geneva has one of the most beautiful dealerships in Switzerland. From "regular" Aston Martins to One-77s, Zagatos and more vintage cars, they seem to have it all. And did we forget to mention that there is a part of the showroom dedicated to Rolls-Royce and Koenigsegg?
Aston Martin DBX
Hate it or love it, this is the DBX, Aston Martin's first ever SUV. This new car is following the path that nearly all sports car manufacturers have taken. Good or bad, Aston Martin stated that they needed an SUV to stay alive and keep on producing special projects like the Valkyrie, or Valhalla. The result is a car which's front looks a lot like the Macan's, and a rear that is unmistakably V8 Vantage. I think it works, and the DBX is maybe the most handsome of SUVs out there. It is equipped with the 550-horsepower V8 that came from AMG, so you should get the same sonorities you'd find on the mighty V8 Vantage. We hope to drive one soon to write a proper article of it. Can't wait for that.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
Not an entirely new model per se, but still a world premiere. You can now buy a topless V8 Vantage. I usually find coupes more attractive than cabriolets, but Aston Martin have managed to keep it clean and beautiful. The new car has already broken a new record: The fastest convertible roof in the world. It takes only 6.8 seconds to retract the roof, and you can drive up to 31 mph while doing this. Mechanically, same story as the coupe, but the Roadster is now 60kg heavier. But listening to that V8 while driving with the top down is priceless.
Aston Martin V12 Speedster
Definitely the star of that mini show! Following Ferrari's Monza SP1/SP2 and the McLaren Elva, the V12 Speedster is, as its name states, a two-seater speedster with no windshield. Aston Martin is a bit late in this game as they were supposed to launch a similar supercar called the CC100 back in 2013 for their centenary. Maybe 2013 was bit too early, and unfortunately the CC100 never made it into production. It now seems like there is actual demand for such cars, so Aston Martin came back at it with this beautiful V12 Speedster. The idea is simple, take a V8 Vantage, chop the roof off, place the 700 horsepower 5.2-litres V12 of the DBS Superleggera under the bonnet, give it a FA-18 fighter jet twist, and here you have it! Prepared by Aston Martin's "Q" department, the V12 Speedster shows us that the brand from Gaydon knows how to have fun, and we love it. Unfortunately, only 88 units will be produced for a mere £765'000...

Aston Martin: Proudly presents the DBX hoping it sells well like the Cayenne
COVID-19: "I'm going to end this company's whole career"
The situation is a catastrophe especially for smaller manufacturers
Just as they got big investments and a very promising model profit wise, BANG pandemic.
Can’t come to terms with the new headlight language thing. Narrow sills is really not my cup of tea.
They look very much like actual eyes maybe. Like what they did with the DB11
Love the Vantage, hate the DBX.
Yep, I feel like a lot of people will dislike this car
and the black does not suit the DBX
I don’t know why they chose the colour black to premiere their latest car 🤷♂️
Yeah.... should have been something with some spunk
Fizzzz
