Upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Hybrid Will Have Over 800 HP
Watch out, Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid!
Although Mercedes-Benz is developing a whole electric brand under the EQ name, its AMG division will feature some electrification as well. Mercedes-AMG also plans to have its entire lineup employ hybrid powertrains soon, starting with the GT four-door.
Although details are scarce at the moment, it is rumored that the hybrid GT four-door will be called the GT73. It will likely use a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 along with a hybrid system (no doubt more powerful than the ones found in lesser AMG models), which may total more than 800 horsepower.
This particular model will be wearing the "V8 BiTurbo E Performance" badge, and AMG says that the rest of its upcoming high-performance hybrids will fall under that E Performance name as well. Besides the badge, expect it to look similar to the existing GT63.
The GT73 will likely be unveiled soon, and it should arrive by the end of the year. The current top-of-the-line GT63 S starts at $162,950, so expect the 73 to approach $200,000.
