All you Mustang fans out there patiently awaiting news on the upcoming 2019 Mustang GT500, we have some good news for you. Some specs for the upcoming GT500 have been revealed courtesy of next month's Motor Trend magazine, and the results are fantastic, though somewhat surprising.
After the success of the GT350 and GT350R, we Mustang fans have been eagerly awaiting the GT500, which has quite a bit to live up to with the Challenger Hellcat and Camaro ZL1 out there.
In the screenshot below (courtesy of Speedtwitch), you can see the listing in the upcoming issue of Motor Trend:
The first thing that sticks out is the fact that the 2019 GT500 will be powered by the 5.0L Coyote, not the 5.2L flat plane crank V8 that the GT350 had. That is sure to come as a major disappointment to anyone who was hoping that wonderful engine would also power the GT500.
The Coyote will be supercharged, and according to Ford Performance, could potentially end up with a TVS 2.65 supercharger. As far as power numbers go, Motor Trend has it listed at 680HP and 630 lb-ft of torque, though that figure is not final, as represented by the asterisk next to the listing.
680 HP seems a fairly conservative number when compared to something like the Hellcat, and while Ford doesn't really need to play the numbers game, we all know how these things work. It's a game of one-upmanship between the big three.
With that in mind, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see the final numbers pushing past the 700 HP mark.
