USA news vs ITA News: we talk old Bentleys, DT and mojitos
So I got a call from Migz, (Christopher Migliozzi, he runs the US news tribe here on Drive Tribe) and he said he would be travelling to Italy for Villa d'Este, the Concours d'Elegance for classic cars in Northern Italy on the shores of Lake Como, and then he would drive south stopping off in Modena to visit the factories of Pagani, Lamborghini and Ferrari.
"So" he said, "why don't we meet in my hotel in Bologna and we can have a chat."
So I did. And the chat evolved into a impromptu interview during which we've covered just about any subject from the "dieselgate" to old Bentleys, with several mojitos in between.
Here we go. The first question he asked was...
He actually explained to me that this was a joke reference to some commercial they had in the US in the 80s or 90s. Fair enough, I guess. We then moved on to mojitos and that naturally got us thinking of diesel, which naturally got us talking about a "certain German brand that did what they did."
We moved on to Villa d'Este, the Concours d'Elegance event for classic and vintage cars. It has taken place every year since 1929 during in Cernobbio, on Lake Como, and it's beautiful. Some of the cars are outrageous.
Speaking of classic cars, we had a conversation about cars and which car would we choose, money no object, for a drive. And I quoted a certain motoring journalist who's also on Drive Tribe, his name begins with J and ends in AmesMay, because he once wrote "I bought my Bentley thinking, well it might be old but it's still a Bentley, whereas the correct mindset is, well it might be a Bentley, but it's very old". I don't remember the exact words but that's the gist. And that sums up the ownership of classic cars quite nicely.
I love meeting with fellow Drivetribers, it's great to have this common and to share the love for cars on this amazing platform. So if you're watching this and you're not on Drivetribe, you should join.

Somebody once said, I think it was Bill Gates, "if I were down to my last dollar, I'd spend it on networking." And I can see why. I wouldn't ordinarily say this but I believe that Drivetribe is also an amazing opportunity to get to know new and interesting people.
