If you have ever played any of the old V-Rally games, you may be pleased to know V-Rally 4 is making a return on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

French studio Kylotonn Racing is developing V-Rally 4, which means you can expect elements of WRC7, FlatOut and TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge when it goes on sale in September, 2018.

Publisher Bigben Interactive says there will be more than 50 cars to thrash about, including a Ford Mustang (your typical rally car, obviously), Porsche 911 Safari and Ford Fiesta RS RX.

There will numerous game modes to sample, too, including your standard rally, 'Extreme Khana' and its various pitfalls you have to avoid and, perhaps best of all, 'Hillclimb', which involves driving up hill in four-wheeled monsters.

Players will also have access to online multiplayer and a career mode, both of which will see you and your chosen rally car take on courses ranging from Africa to Japan. Expect the usual smattering of difficult weather conditions such as snow and particularly gooey mud.

Kylotonn Racing game director, Alain Jarniou, said of V-Rally 4: "It's a real privilege for me to once again work on the V-Rally series. It's an extraordinary title that I have a very special connection to."

"I had a chance to join the team that created V-Rally to develop V-Rally 3 on the PlayStation 2 as a programmer. I'm very proud to be working on the franchise again 15 years later," he added.

The V-Rally series has been absent since 2003. Originally debuting on PlayStation in 1997, it was known by various names depending on the region it was sold in. Americans, for instance, got Need for Speed: V-Rally because EA had concerns about rally being less popular there.

If you prefer two-wheelers, Kylotonn Racing's TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge is out now and the critical reception has been positive, which bodes well for V-Rally 4.
