Who wins in a battle of sound only? In the blue corner we have the good ol V8 (proper V8’s, not tossy McLaren or Ferrari high pitched V8’s that sounds like four cylinder cars) VS the V12 in the red corner. This is an old age question. This is a hard one but for sound only a high revving V8 is eargasmic. I will never get tired of hearing a healthy, rough idling and clean revving V8. Yes, my bias view to muscle cars is also a contributing factor but I have some evidence below to prove my point.
Ford VS Ferrari
Shelby Daytona: skip to 1:15
VS
Ferrari 250 GTO:
Shelby GT350R
VS
Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
Other superior V8 sounding cars include the E90/E92 M3, all Koenisegg’s, SLS Black Series, XFR (that was before Jaaaggggggs started sounding like they had holes in their exhausts), Z06 Corvette, etc.
Before you V12 fans stone me to death in your minds, to prove me wrong, I’d suggest Pagani/Mercedes, Lamborghini, Ferrari Aston Martin V12’s, etc.
Here are some memes to enjoy.

The AMG GT has a beautiful V8. I loved that sound.
I prefer the metalic sound of a V10
I was expecting some V10 votes. Yeah they also sound nice
The v10 in the lfa is hard to argue around. It makes its own class in my opinion. Nothing to really compare it to.
Personally, I like a V8 if it's on a muffled car and a V12 in an unmuffled car. V8's sound weird unmuffled to me. 12's just roar like no one's business in a race car. Oddly though, the best sounding engine in my opinion is neither. The Mazda 787B is stupid amazing sounding. And I'm even one of those people who can't stand Japanese cars normally. Followed closely by the Ferrari F355, which has the best sounding V8 I've ever heard. 5 valves per cylinder is where it's at it seems.
Yes the 26b quad rotor in the 787b sounds amazing. Personally, I prefer the sound of the 20b riple rotor engine. They growl and scream at the same time. Almost like a American V8 and LFA V10 combined.
It depends what day it is. I like them both. I also liked the bellow of the v-8 that was in the mcClaren Mercedes. It was definitely different than the whining ones.
v8's sound amazing, but v12's sound godly!!
