The Porsche 919 Hybrid only broke cover this last Friday, and already it's gone straight into its first test at Monza. Both 919s were running and managed a total of 660 laps between them, the equivalent of 3,800 km - not half bad for a two-day test.

The main target of the 919 Hybrid's season is for a third straight win at Le Mans in June, but first up is the six hour FIA World Endurance Championship round at Silverstone over the Easter weekend. Luckily it rained at Monza, so the teams were pleased to get some testing in for what is traditionally a wet weekend in the UK.

Andreas Seidl, Team Principal, told us that Saturday was mainly about improving the set-up, but that the rain allowed the teams to practise quick turnarounds in changing conditions. Sunday was more focused on race-specific concerns like tyre wear and pit-stops, and all went according to plan.

Let's hope Silverstone is as successful.

The 911 RSR was also present at Monza, and Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Head of Porsche Motorsport, was pleased to report that it was a trouble-free run across the two days, completing more laps than any of our competitors.

Testing times are always hard to gauge - just look at the F1 pre-season testing for proof of that - but the RSR's reliability was impressive and, just as importantly, all the drivers feel confident of some great results at Silverstone.

And in an action-packed weekend, it was the first round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch. How about this for a stat: the qualifying times for the top four places were less than a hundreth of a second, which is the equivalent of less than the length of a 911.

The two races were just as competitive. Dan Cammish won race one, but just six seconds covered the top five. In race two Cammish again took the flag, but this time only five seconds covered the top five. And second-placed man Charlie Eastwood was only 0.841 seconds behind Cammish after 34 laps.

In something of an epic fortnight for Porsche scholar Eastwood, he's gone from driving a 908/3 at the 75th Members' Meeting at Goodwood to finishing on the second step of the Carrera Cup podium in both races. Not a bad run of things all things considered.

The next round is in two weeks at Donnington Park. If the top four qualifiers could try and outdo Brands and post identical quali times, that would be lovely thanks.
