Video: Corvette C8 walkaround broke my internet
A sign of things to come
The new Corvette C8 will be officially unveiled on 18th of July, and I can't remember last time there was so much buzz surrounding any other Chevy car. The reason is simple, after more than 50 years, and countless attempts, Corvette is finally maturing into a mid-engine supercar.
First time ever the nose will be short so everyone, and their mother, wants to know what will that look like. I do too!
Well, here it is (probably), both in a coupe and convertible form. 👇
This changes everything!
What you just watched is obviously not real. It is a 3D model based on the latest and most accurate leaks, camouflaged cars and test mules, and is now projected as augmented reality in someone's driveway.
Let me repeat that: someone was checking what the new C8 Corvette would look like parked in their driveway, on their phone screen!
In the words of Jony Ive
This is the future! This is how we will be admiring cars or buying them from now on.
Park the virtual car in front of your home and go inspect it. Peek inside, under, compare the size, change the color... and if you don't like it, just swipe away - like that Tinder app.
If you DO like it, the obvious next step is to go check it out in person: touch some materials, sniff the interior, see how it drives.
But the silver lining is: photos are sooooo 2018.
What about the car itself?
As I mentioned, there have been many leaks, and based on what we have seen, this could be a pretty accurate depiction of it.
And to be honest, I don't really like it. It looks more like a Hot Wheels model. The gaping front is huge, headlights are juvenile, and the rear doesn't fit well either. But then again, it is based on the best we have seen so far:
Hopefully, it gets better once the wraps are off for real.
What about you? Do you like the new C8 Corvette?
Will Augmented Reality change the way you buy cars?
Which is the first car you'd explore in Augmented Reality?
