Video: Evolution of the Porsche 911

Despite what most of you say, it does change shape!

The most irritating common conception in motoring is that the Porsche 911 looks the same as the day it was conceived. Any proper car enthusiast will know that under the bonnet (or boot), there has been as much engineering changes in one car as there has been in any other in history.

However, I know that is not what the jibe comes from, it is the fact that the exterior aesthetics don't change, but again, they clearly do. My personal favourite is the 993 GT2 (pictured above), which shares little to no resemblance aesthetically with, say, a 997.

Donut Media put together a gorgeous little video showing the evolution of the body shape and labelling engineering changes, model to model. I could genuinely watch it all day.

Let me know what your favourite 911 body shape is.

  • Haha wow. 996 sitting at a solid 0% vote! I guess it lives up to its reputation of “nobody’s favourite 911”.

  • Lots of noise some random touching on very major milestones, but a poor representation of the actual evolution. And I'm not even a Porsche guy.

    • I don’t mind having that beetle cause it would be a collection to my home but I won’t be able to afford at the moment
