If you were lucky enough to have a Scalextric set as a kid, did you ever wonder what was going on underneath the bodywork of the little toy racers?

  • Held a scalextric car in place once. Revved it up and let go. The track went for a 180degree diagonal corner (like a nascar corner) Car flew around the bend and went of the track on the next corner. Flew right into my face. Ouch.

  • Im 56 and still love and collect scalextric. I have around 30 different cars from touring cars including honda civic to sierras to formula one cars including the jps . I have them all on display including my 6r4 metro collection and mini clubmans which was my first set i had at the age of 12 and shared with my brother. Im always searching for old scalextric cars from my youth and now have most that i had or wanted from 70s/80s etc.

  • I had a transformer on my scalextric set that I could turn up to 30v instead of the usual 12, my brother and I used to make a ramp and see how far we could make them fly from the patio into the garden. In later years I developed an interest in aircraft and used to build detachable wings which I affixed to the little cars and then sent my scalextric flying machine hybrids up the ramp. One delta winged design made it all the way down the garden and even landed right way up.
