Video: Kari Motor Speedway undertakes track layout changes to be F3-eligible
The circuit in Coimbatore undertakes much-needed track changes.
In a good news for Indian motor racing community, the COVID-19 lockdown threw a surprise on Tuesday when a video and photos emerged of ongoing work at Kari Motor Speedway - one of the three major race tracks in the country.
The Coimbatore track was in need of a makeover, especially after the massive upgrade work undertaken by Madras Motor Race Track with drag strip, fresh pit garages and grandstand. It seems like Kari is going a similar way, even though it is not fully clear of all the changes.
A video on Facebook from LG Sports Pvt Ltd showcased the ongoing work as it promoted itself being 'F3 ready' as it seemingly eyes races of FIA F3 Asian Championship or most certainly be able to host Formula 4 South East Asia races, just like MMRT does.
The raw footage, though, highlighted layout changes with the start/finish a.k.a the long straight getting shortened by some meters as they have introduced a left-right corner, which connects with the original Turn 1, which now becomes Turn 3 as a result.
It is not clear if they will still keep that long straight in its original self as an alternative layout. Going forward, the old Turn 4-5-6 also sees a change as the right-left corner doesn't leads to a larger left-right section but it connects straight to the mild right section.
The final part of the track sees a change too which has become shorter to what it was previously, as the exit of the new straight has an extreme left-right rather than a mild one. No more details can be ascertained as we wait for racing action to return.
