Wondering how quick the upcoming Lamborghini Huracan Performante is going to be? Well, Lamborghini's given us a very good indicator that the answer is a) devastatingly quick.

In an announcement made today, it was confirmed that the new track-focused version of the Huracan has lapped the fabled Nurburgring in 6m 52sec – beating the current record by a whole five seconds and making it the quickest production car around the torturous circuit.

Watch Lamborghini test driver Marco Mapelli set the new record in the video below, which was recorded on 5 October 2016. Just listen to that naturally aspirated V10 sing!

The previous record of 6m 57sec was established by the Porsche 918 Spyder. Credit where credit's due, mind: the Porsche has held the top road car spot for around three years.

Lamborghini's new Huracan Performante, which features revised aerodynamics and more power, is expected to make its full debut at the upcoming Geneva motor show.

  • It's so disgraceful. :( They sped up the video with TIME LAPSE --- That's why the Lambo is much slower (in SPEED) than the 918, but the TIME is faster. Shame on them... :( Need evidence? www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhpbHUPLbKY

  • Great drive! I must be getting old because I also noticed it drank almost 1/4 tank of fuel for the lap :-)

  • What kind of tires did it do it on?

  • Is it really faster than the Aventador S the flagship. Also worth noting the 918 is not a track focused car. It's a sports car. The bar is raised again. Lastly both manufacturers are part of the VAG, so I don't think they are too concerned at the Porsche stable.
