Video: Remember the time Ayrton Senna drove a Metro 6R4?

In a Welsh forrest for added nostalgia

3y ago

There are very few occasions when three of my favourite things come together at once. I think the last time was in 2013 when it was my birthday, I received Wales v England rugby tickets as a present and Wales actually won 30-3. As I said, it is a very rare occasion, so when I heard that my favourite racing driver, had driven one of my favourite cars around my home country, I got a little giddy inside.

For those who are unaware of what I am prattling on about, in 1986, the greatest racer of all time, Ayrton Senna, drove a Metro 6R4 rally car in a Welsh Forrest. Sentences don't get much more special to me and I'm even more excited that there is footage!

The piece came about when the great motoring journalist, Russell Bulgin, managed to convince Senna, mid-season, to come to muddy Wales to give some cars a good thrashing for Cars and Car Conversations magazine.

I wish there was more footage of him thrashing the 6R4, but for now, this video will do nicely to head down nostalgia avenue.

  • Nice footage, but your copy looks like it was written with Autocorrect turned on. 'Welsh Forrest'? 'good thrashing. for Cars'?

  • Ayrton was an all time great and it is nice to see him trying WRC. But it doesn't matter with whom You comapre - Ayrton, Kimi, it is Robert (Kubica) who managed to be in top level of both F1 (got some P1, one WIN, several podiums) and WRC (WRC2 champion, some good results, several stages won).
