Villeneuve scores Top 10 result in Race 2 of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia
Jacques Villeneuve secured a Top 10 result in Race 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia round, last weekend.
The 1997 F1 champion had his second outing in the Porsche Carerra Cup Scandinavia, with Mtech Competition, driving a #97 Porsche GT3 car as his previous #911 car was driven by Sweden Prince Carl Philips.
The Canadian started the weekend at Gellerason Karlskoga, which is Round 5 in the 2019 season, with a ninth place finish in the official test. The Qualifying 1 saw Villeneuve end up 11th but only 0.982s off the pole-sitter.
He missed getting in Qualifying 2 though. The first race saw Villeneuve inside the Top 10 in the opening stages but was tapped into a spin, which dropped him to the back of the pace.
He fought his way up to 11th but pitted thinking that it was the end of the race, when it was originally the final lap. He was classified 16th as a result with a lap down, like Philips who was 17th.
The Sweden Prince had an incident on Lap 1, which loosened his car’s gate as it eventually came off the car. The Race 2 on Sunday was much better and quite for Villeneuve, with a Top 10 finish.
The Canadian finished eighth in a close fight for seventh, which had another car involved. With the guest round over, Villeneuve will be back in NASCAR Euro Series, where he races full-time.
He currently is ninth in the standings with 212 points – which doesnt include the results of one round where he scored the least. He has three podium finishes, driving a Chevrolet Camaro in Elite 1 for Go Gas Racing.
