Vinales tops Jerez MotoGP test over Rins by 0.034s

The one-day test gave the chance to the teams to test new items for remainder of 2021 season.

Yamaha's Maverick Vinales was fastest during the MotoGP test at Jerez from Suzuki's Alex Rins, where Fabio Quartararo did not ride.

After the arm pump trouble during Spanish GP, Yamaha's Quartararo elected not to take part in the MotoGP test at Jerez, with Honda's wildcard entrant Stefan Bradl also not riding. The Frenchman left Spain to his home for medical check-up.

His teammate Vinales topped the MotoGP test day with a 1m36.879s lap, which was 0.034s quicker than Rins (1m36.913s). The latter rode through some pain after his crash on Sunday, while the former caused a red flag after stopping on track earlier in the day.

Rins led Suzuki teammate Joan Mir (1m37.310s) as the duo tested the 2022-spec engine. LCR Honda's Takaaki Nakagami was fourth, running the Yamaha-like fairing, while Pramac Ducati's Johann Zarco rounded out the Top 5 positions.

Honda's Pol Espargaro slotted in sixth from KTM's Miguel Oliveira - where the former crashed out twice - with Avintia Ducati's Luca Marini in eighth ahead of Petronas SRT Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli and Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia in the Top 10.

KTM's Brad Binder was 11th from Petronas SRT's Valentino Rossi, while Avintia's Enea Bastianini slotted in 13th from Aprilia's Aleix Esparagro, who had a crash at Turn 6, which limited his lap count to only 12, in a big jolt for the Italian outfit.

LCR's Alex Marquez returned to action after crashing out from Sunday's MotoGP race in 15th, with brother Marc in 16th. The latter only completed seven laps as he felt uneasy to ride, after a hefty crash in FP3, where he suffered contusion.

Tech 3 KTM's Iker Lecuona was 17th from Ducati's Jack Miller, with the other Tech 3 of Danilo Petrucci in 19th from Pramac's Tito Rabat and Aprilia's Lorenzo Savadori, to round out the 21 MotoGP runners.
