Volkswagen has criticized the Subaru Outback in this ID.4 ad

VW USA's Marketing department are turning the controversy level up to 11

Volkswagen USA's marketing department caused quite a stir with the 'Voltswagen' name-change joke. In the midst of all this, people neglected the VW ID.4 commercial you see below.

In the advertisement, the ID.4 is shown as the perfect electric SUV for your family. The main talking point is the slight jab VW takes at the Subaru Outback. The family in the ID.4 are seen enjoying nature until a Subaru Outback comes covered in mud having 'I Love Nature' stickers and seems to interrupt things. After seeing the Outback, the actress in the as says, "Seriously?"

Using this the German brand has shown the contrast between petrol/diesel cars and electric cars. I'm sure this will not go down well with Subaru Outback owners.

  • Firstly, educated humans know that EVs have no emissions or even carbon free potential whatsoever. They have even less than the ICE due to having minimal to no flexibility around the fuel that powers them. I really hate EVs for that, and how everyone lies about it to the gullible general public. Secondly, this is coming from the guys who did dieselgate. I mean, if that's not hypocrisy, then what is?

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with manufacturers taking a fun jab at each other. Subaru should follow that with someone sitting at a charging station looking at their watch with an outback driver filling up and leaving while they sit there 😄

  • The Outback is built in a manufacturing plant that has produced zero landfill waste since 2004.... Can VW really say the same? And if I may also add, the same manufacturing plant is recognized as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Yes, Subaru Loves Nature. Seriously.
